From internship to employment: Innovative services to support the occupational integration of immigrant students

A large proportion of the students of the Service de la formation continue (Continuing Education Service) of Collège de Maisonneuve are recently arrived immigrants. For some of them, occupational insertion after success in their program of studies represents a major challenge.

The general objective of this project conducted in collaboration with the College’s Carrefour des langues, de l’international, de l’interculturel et des relations avec la collectivité (CLIIC) is to develop an innovative approach allowing use of the preparation of the end-of-program internship to develop occupational insertion skills and thus strengthen the internship’s role as a springboard to employment.

The approach developed will formalize and improve the practices already in place in four of the College’s continuing education programs. It then will be transferable to other programs within the College, both in continuing education and regular education.

Internship search tools, a companion guide and training for teachers and guidance counsellors will contribute to concretize the deployment of the approach.
